Electric Immersion in Norway

Destination : Tromsø and the Lofoten Islands | Vehicule : Rav4 Prime (PHEV) | Distance : 1,900 km

This summer, Sophie flew to Norway, often regarded as one of the most electrified countries in the world. There, she rented an electric vehicle to explore Tromsø, the Lofoten Islands, and the country's spectacular landscapes.

“What really struck me was the density and availability of charging stations. Wherever we went, there was always a charger nearby. We never felt stranded. Although the vehicle could run on gasoline, we always prioritized electric mode. Charging is so well integrated that you don't even think about it anymore.”
Sophie Morissette, UX Researcher

This immersion allowed her to compare North American and European realities and envision new ways to improve the ChargeHub user experience.

Road Trip Through Gaspésie

Destination: Gaspé | Vehicle: Tesla | Distance: 1,800 km round trip

Ryan hit the road to Gaspésie in his EV and knew the route well since his family comes from that region. On his trip, he mainly used Electric Circuit and EcoCharge stations, both compatible (activatable) with the ChargeHub app, and occasionally Tesla chargers, thanks to his NACS adapter.

Ryan's tip:

"If your car allows it, I highly recommend getting a NACS adapter; it opens up so many charging options, especially in more remote areas. I was able to avoid several detours thanks to it.”

Camping at Sandbanks with Two EVs

Destination: Sandbanks Provincial Park, Ontario | Vehicle: Tesla | Distance: 700 km round trip

Last July, Olivier hit the road to Sandbanks Provincial Park in Ontario for a family camping trip with two EVs, in the wilderness without electrical service on site.

“The campground was quite isolated and, since we had two EVs and were spending three days there, we really had to plan carefully. Range wasn't decreasing fast since we weren't driving much once settled in, but it was crucial to know exactly where we could recharge before heading back.”

Olivier's tip: When camping without electricity, consider the return trip. Even if the vehicle stays parked for several days, it's best to locate nearby charging stations and plan for a range buffer for the return journey.

A Long Journey in an Electric Van

Destinations : Montreal → Wentworth-Nord → Shawinigan → Montreal | Vehicule : Ford E-Transit 2023 | Distance : 500 km

Mathieu completed a nearly 10-hour round trip in a 2023 Ford E-Transit between Montreal, Wentworth-Nord, and Shawinigan. With a range of approximately 200 km, he had to stop several times to charge, particularly at Circuit Électrique and Circle K stations.

Mathieu's tip: EV travel requires a bit more planning than gas cars, but charging stops become ideal opportunities to take a break, stretch, and hit the road again with peace of mind.

Optimizing Stops

Destinations: Saguenay and New York | Vehicle: Hyundai Ioniq 5 | Distance: 3,000 km total

Simon-NY1

Simon adopted a strategic approach to his travels: using ChargeHub not only to find charging stations but also to optimize each stop. He systematically prioritized chargers located near amenities such as convenience stores, restrooms, restaurants, or shops.

"My goal was to test whether public charging was truly possible with just one app. And the answer is yes! I was able to charge 100% of the time thanks to ChargeHub. One single app to find, activate, and pay: it's really convenient!"

However, he points out a common pitfall in urban areas: some chargers, particularly in New York, are located in paid parking lots or private places. It's best to read the details before heading there.

Simon's tip: Filter your results by amenities and always verify if the charger is publicly accessible before hitting the road.

Exploring New Networks Around Gatineau Park

Destination: Gatineau Park | Vehicle: Tesla Model 3 | Distance: 300 km

Usually a fan of Tesla Superchargers, Jan discovered a new challenge during a trip to Gatineau Park: the scarcity of stations from this network in the region. Thanks to the ChargeHub app, he was able to locate other compatible chargers and easily explore new networks.

Jan's tip:

"Don't limit yourself to a single network, even if it's the one you know best. ChargeHub is an essential travel companion, especially when you venture outside your familiar zones. Broaden your horizons and you'll have much more flexibility."

Mikaël, Data Scientist

On the Road Between Maryland and Atlantic City

Destination: Annapolis, Maryland, and Boston, Massachusetts | Vehicle: Chevrolet Bolt 2019 | Distance: 3,000 km

During a trip along the American East Coast, Mikaël carefully planned his charging stops by relying on comments and ratings available on ChargeHub. He favoured networks known for their reliability and learned to prepare in regions where chargers are scarce, particularly in New York State.

A charger with a malfunctioning card reader caused him a minor setback, but he quickly found a nearby alternative, which, according to him, is a good reflex to avoid frustration.

Mikaël's tip: Always read recent comments before heading to a charger, especially in unfamiliar regions. And don't hesitate to contribute yourself: the ChargeHub community is our main asset for reliable charging.
