After a first edition published in 2025 as an analytical report, the ChargeHub Awards: Excellence in Charging Experience took a significant step forward on April 9, 2026, with a live ceremony at the Enercare Centre in Toronto. Grounded in ChargeHub's proprietary data, the Awards recognize charging network operators that have stood out for the quality of experience they deliver to EV drivers. Held as the closing event of the fourth EV & Charging Expo, one of the most important B2B gatherings in the Canadian EV sector, the ceremony brought together key industry players from across the country.

Nearly 300 professionals gathered for an evening reception where the recipients were announced. Beyond the recognition itself, the night was a chance to celebrate the progress of an entire industry and spotlight the charging networks that truly raised the bar in 2025.

How Recipients Are Determined

The ChargeHub Awards are rooted in the methodology behind the ChargeHub Charging Experience Barometer. The Barometer analyzes feedback from thousands of EV drivers who charged via the ChargeHub app across a wide range of networks. Each piece of feedback is categorized as reflecting either a successful or an unsuccessful charging experience, enabling identification of which networks deliver consistently and where the industry still has ground to cover.

This approach isn't based on subjective evaluation. It draws on data from more than one million users per year, and that feedback determines the charging experience, an accurate reflection of what drivers actually encounter at the charger.

As Simon Ouellette, CEO and co-founder of ChargeHub, puts it:

"The ChargeHub Awards exist because data tells a story our industry needs to hear. These distinctions are grounded in what drivers actually experience at the charger."

Alongside the Excellence in Charging Experience Awards, ChargeHub presented a second distinction: the Special Recognition Award, reserved for the network that went above and beyond in terms of user experience.

To earn this recognition, a network must meet three criteria:

  1. Charging performance

  2. Proactive communication, keeping EV drivers informed before they arrive at a charger, not just in response to incidents

  3. Broader reach, extending that proactive commitment beyond the network's own platform to meet drivers where they are

The recipient of the Special Recognition Award for this second edition is BC Hydro EV. Aida Marie Sarroca shared her reaction:

"A great achievement for BC Hydro's public charging network."

For Simon Ouellette, BC Hydro's recognition speaks directly to what the program was built to highlight:

"BC Hydro didn't just stand out for its performance, it redefined what it means to serve EV drivers proactively. The third criterion, extending that commitment beyond its own platform, is where their approach reaches an entirely different level."

This second edition reflects a clear ambition: to raise the bar for the charging experience in Canada by highlighting the networks that put drivers first.

ChargeHub thanks Electric Autonomy for their partnership, the recognized networks for their commitment, and all the professionals who joined us at the EV & Charging Expo.

The third edition will be an opportunity to measure progress and continue recognizing the networks driving the industry forward.
