The Ivy Charging Network is Ontario's largest electric vehicle (EV) fast-charger network. It was launched through a partnership between Hydro One and Ontario Power Generation. Ivy aims to make charging on-the-go easy, reliable, and seamless, connecting Ontario from north to south and east to west. The network currently has 28 locations with level 3 fast-chargers, delivering up to 100 km of charge in 20 minutes or less. By the end of 2022, Ivy expects to expand to over 60 locations with 160 fast-chargers. Additionally, Ivy offers an all-in-one home charging solution called Ivy Home, which includes a level 2 smart charger, professional installation, and access to their fast-charging network.

Where to find Ivy charging stations

Ivy Charging Network primarily focuses on Ontario, Canada. To find Ivy charging stations, you have a few options:

  1. Ivy Charging Network Website:
  • This is the most direct way to find Ivy charging stations. They offer a map and search function to locate stations based on your location or desired destination.

  1. Charging Station Apps:

Many charging station apps, such as ChargeHub ev charging map, PlugShare or ChargePoint, include Ivy charging stations in their databases. These apps often provide additional details like charger availability, pricing, and user reviews. You can even pay for your session with the ChargeHub application.

A significant portion of Ivy charging stations are located at ONroute stops along major highways in Ontario. You can find a list of these locations and their charging facilities on the ONroute website:

While Ivy is primarily focused on Ontario, there might be some overlap or partnerships with other charging networks in certain areas. It's always a good idea to use multiple resources to find the most comprehensive list of charging stations available.

How to Use Ivy charging stations

To start a charging session with Ivy Charging Network, follow these steps:

  1. Mobile App Method:
  • Become an Ivy member.
  • Open the Ivy mobile app.
  • Scan the QR code on the charger using your phone.
  • Tap the “Start” button to initiate the charging session.
  1. RFID Card Method:
  • Use your RFID card.
  • Tap the card on the RFID reader at the charging station.
  1. Credit Card Payment (via QR Code):
  • If you prefer not to use the app, you can pay with your credit card.
  • Scan the QR code on the charger with your mobile device.
  • Follow the onscreen steps and enter your credit card information.
  • Tap “Start” on the Charger page.

After each transaction, you’ll receive an email receipt with a detailed breakdown of your charging session. You can also track your charging history and payment details in the mobile app.

How to charge on an Ivy Level 3 charging station with your preferred app:

  1. Activate your session by app, by RFID, or by credit card (scan the station QR code).
  2. Plug in a connector to your car port.
  3. Press Start Charge in your app / or tap your RFID to get going.
  4. Press Stop in your app to finish your session.
  5. Unplug and charge into adventure with confidence and ease!

Cost to Charge your Electric Vehicle on an Ivy Charging Station

There are no membership fees or subscription costs to join the Ivy Charging Network. You can simply download the Ivy app, create an account, and start using their fast-charging network. Enjoy your electric vehicle journey!

The Ivy Charging Network introduced energy-based pricing for their fast-charging network (level 3 chargers). EV drivers are charged $0.62 per kilowatt-hour (tax-inclusive) based on the energy consumed during their charging session. For example, if your vehicle consumes 20 kWh, the cost would be $12.40. Idle fees are not currently charged, but members are encouraged to clear the space promptly after charging. Additionally, Ivy offers level 2 destination charging at up to $2.50 per hour, with plug types including CHAdeMO and CCS. If you're interested in home charging, Ivy's home EV charger is priced at $649 CAD.
