Apparently some (all?) Chevron chargers have a built in battery to boost charges. But if station is busy with car after car, it rapidly decreases. Then the charging rates can drop below 30kW and/or it faults out. This station is one of these and I showed up to see the message “power conservation mode”. I’m the curious type so I gave it a whirl and sure enough, looked ok for a few seconds and then faulted out in less than 2 minutes. This station is near the ferry terminal so I suspect it dropping to conservation mode will be a common occurrence. Lesson of the day…if you see this message on the main screen don’t waste your time, just drive on.

Awesome. Stable power between 50-70kw. Less occupied than the one in Gordon head, which can drop to 8kw, and made no sense to keep charging there. Chevron should consider installing more charging stations at popular areas. Or else it really defeats the purpose of getting a fast charge. Free or not.
